Why Should We Not Demand Status for Azerbaijanis in Western Zangezur? - Aliyev

Armenia is questioning Azerbaijan's territorial integrity, forcing the Azerbaijani side to do the same. This was stated by Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev at the opening of the IX Global Baku Forum.

According to him, historically, Azerbaijan has more rights to do this. The history of the last century shows that in November 1920, Soviet authorities seized Azerbaijan's historical part, Zangezur, and annexed it to Armenia.

“For this reason, if Armenia is demanding status for the Armenians of Karabakh, why should we not demand status for Azerbaijanis in Western Zangezur? This area was completely populated by Azerbaijanis,” the state leader emphasized.

At the same time, Aliyev noted that such a path leads to a dead end and called on the Armenian government to abandon territorial claims against Azerbaijan.
