Demanding the Early Withdrawal of Peacekeepers from Artsakh Means Spoiling Relations with Russia – Nikolai Silaev
I believe that the current situation in Nagorno-Karabakh will continue for a long time. It seems to me that all parties involved understand this. This was stated by Russian political scientist Nikolai Silaev in an interview with NEWS.am.
According to him, there will be no significant attempts to change the situation until the end of military operations in Ukraine, also due to the fact that since February 24, the stakes have risen significantly for everyone, especially for Russia.
"This is not the same Russia that everyone dealt with on November 9, 2020. Demanding the early withdrawal of peacekeepers from Artsakh means radically damaging relations with Russia. I wouldn’t have expected that. Of course, the Russian military presence in the area that Azerbaijan considers its own is very sensitive for Azerbaijan. The situation created in the region as a result of the second Nagorno-Karabakh war does not satisfy Armenia, but any stable international order does not completely satisfy all parties involved," Silaev emphasized.
He noted that Russia is interested in strengthening good relations with both Armenia and Azerbaijan, especially as the entire global logistics is changing due to sanctions. "A new impetus is important for the development of transport communications, and good relations with both Armenia and Azerbaijan are crucial for us. It is essential for us to unblock communications, especially the North-South transport corridor," concluded the expert.
