Macron: EU Membership Process for Ukraine Could Take Decades
The process for Ukraine's membership in the European Union could take several years, possibly even decades. French President Emmanuel Macron made this statement while addressing the closing of the conference on the future of Europe in Strasbourg.
“We all know very well that the process that allows for membership in the EU will take several years, to be honest, even decades, unless we decide to lower the criteria for joining the European Union,” said the French president.
It is worth noting that during her visit to Kyiv in April, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen handed over a request to President Volodymyr Zelensky to start negotiations for joining the European Union. She emphasized that the document provided serves as a basis for discussions in the upcoming months.
Zelensky signed Ukraine's application for EU membership on February 28. The following day, the European Parliament approved a resolution to grant candidate country status to Ukraine.
