Saudi Arabia Pressured Yemen's Elected President to Resign: The Wall Street Journal

At the beginning of this month, Saudi Arabia pressured Yemen's elected president Abdrabbuh Mansur Hadi to resign. This was reported by The Wall Street Journal, which noted that officials have confined the country's leader to his home and limited his communications.

On April 7, Abdrabbuh Mansur Hadi announced his resignation and transferred his powers to a new governing council at a time when Yemen entered a fragile ceasefire, leading to a rare halt in years of conflict.

Citing anonymous officials from Saudi Arabia and Yemen, the publication reports that Riyadh's Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman issued a written order for Hadi to transfer his powers to a council composed of eight representatives from various Yemeni groups.

“Following his resignation, Hadi has been confined to his home in Riyadh and deprived of phone access,” a Saudi official told the media.
