China Opposes Russia's Removal from G20
Russia is a key member of the Group of Twenty (G20), and no participating country has the right to exclude others from this format. This was stated by Wang Wenbin, a spokesperson for the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, during a regular briefing on Wednesday.
"The G20 is an important platform for international economic cooperation. Russia is an important participant, and no participant has the right to deprive others of this status," he said.
Wang Wenbin noted that the global economy is currently at a critical stage of recovery from the negative impacts of the pandemic, and therefore, in this context, the G20 countries bear special responsibility for maintaining economic growth.
It should be recalled that on Tuesday, during a press briefing at the White House, U.S. National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan stated that the United States intends to consult with allies and partners before making any announcement about the possibility of removing Russia from the G20. However, he believes that, given the situation surrounding Ukraine, "things cannot proceed as normal for Russia within international organizations."
