Canada's Delegation Makes Edits to Russian Resolution
The Canadian mission to the UN has circulated a copy of a letter from Russia's Permanent Representative Vasily Nebenzya concerning a proposed resolution on humanitarian aid for Ukraine, reports the BBC.
In the text, Canadian diplomats made their edits: instead of the phrase, "Like other members of the world community, we are deeply concerned about the deterioration of [the humanitarian situation]," it was suggested to write, "We are not deeply concerned about [the humanitarian situation] deteriorating, as we are the cause of it." Numerous other comments were written in the margins, requesting explanations regarding shelling of maternity hospitals, residential buildings, and other locations.
Russian diplomats did not appreciate the joke. They labeled the Canadians' tweet as "Russophobic slander" and "kindergarten-level diplomacy."
