US Closes Airspace to All Russian Flights
US authorities are closing the country's airspace to aircraft from the Russian Federation. This announcement was made by President Joe Biden during his annual address on the "State of the Union" to the US Congress on the evening of March 1, as reported by TASS.
"I declare that we join our allies and close US airspace to all Russian flights," Biden stated. The ban will take effect at the end of March 2. It applies to commercial and cargo flights, regular and charter flights, which implies the closure of US airspace to all Russian commercial carriers and other civilian aircraft.
Biden also mentioned that American troops will not fight in Ukraine but will defend NATO allies in Europe. Boeing has suspended services and support for Russian airlines. Canada has also imposed sanctions on Dmitry Medvedev, Sergey Sobyanin, Alexander Beglov, and several other high-ranking Russians.
