Turkey Threatens Regional Peace: European Parliament Report
During the ongoing plenary session of the European Parliament (EP) in Strasbourg, two separate reports on the European Union's (EU) common foreign, security, and defense policy have been discussed. Turkey has also been addressed. This was reported by Ermenihaber.am.
The report presented by Natalie Loiseau, a member of the European Parliament from France, emphasized that Turkey often plays a destabilizing role in many areas concerning the EU and its neighbors, posing a threat to regional peace, security, and stability.
Turkey's newly declared illegal actions in maritime areas under the jurisdiction of Greece and Cyprus, as well as illegal actions against EU member states, have been deemed highly concerning and condemned due to the threats of military confrontation.
In the other report on the EU's common foreign and security policy, presented by German parliamentarian David McAllister, it was highlighted that under the current conditions, the prospect of Turkey's accession to the EU is 'unrealistic.'
The High Representative of the EU for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Josep Borrell, noted during the plenary session that there is an attempt to de-escalate tensions with Turkey in the Eastern Mediterranean. However, he pointed out that Ankara's actions in the Varosha area of Cyprus remain a 'source of concern.'
The reports will be put to a vote on February 16, and the results will be announced on February 17.
