Why Pashinyan Did Not Respond to Lukashenko: The Situation Has Changed
The newspaper "Haykakan Zhamanak" reports that for several days now, representatives of the opposition, political analysts, and simply citizens have been discussing and expressing their anger about Belarusian President Lukashenko's statement. He emphasized that Armenia has no escape from becoming part of a "Union State" by saying, "What do you think, do they need someone? Nikol Vovayevich knows this well."
However, Nikol Vovayevich has not responded to his Belarusian counterpart in any way, leaving it to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs or the parliamentary faction "Civil Contract". The deputies from the ruling faction, who rushed to the country's primary political podium to give a "proportional response" upon hearing Lukashenko's statement, changed their tone yesterday and became more amiable. "Such incidents happen, both we and the MFA have responded, so let's consider the matter closed," one of the deputies from the ruling faction told us.
It appears that for Pashinyan, "the situation has changed." While he used to express surprise and anger in 2018 about Lukashenko telling the Azerbaijani ambassador about the closed-door meeting of the CSTO Collective Security Council in Belarus, he now avoids giving a proportional response to his Belarusian counterpart. At that time, Pashinyan stated that he was surprised that a person who had been in a leadership position for 30 years could allow such a step. "Of course, I should demand clarifications from the President of Belarus and not only from him," he emphasized.
Later, referring to his own inquiry, Pashinyan stated, "Whatever I said, I must do, everything has been done," without specifically clarifying what kind of explanation he received from the Belarusian president. As for Lukashenko's controversial statements about Armenia made recently, our country's leader seemingly has neither comments nor the need for clarifications.
