Hungary Refuses to Host American Troops on Its Territory
Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto has announced that his country has not agreed to host additional troops on its territory, stating that the Hungarian army is sufficient to guarantee security, as reported by Armenpress.
“No, we have not agreed and we will not agree, because we already have NATO troops on our territory, and that is the Hungarian army and Hungary’s armed forces, which are in proper condition to ensure the security of the country. Therefore, we do not need additional troops in Hungary,” Szijjarto announced during a broadcast on the Euronews channel.
Earlier, Pentagon spokesman John Kirby had informed about the US decision to temporarily deploy additional forces in Europe, linked to the escalation of the situation around Ukraine. Specifically, according to Kirby, “in the coming days, 1,000 soldiers stationed in Germany will be moved to Romania, where they will join the 900 American soldiers already present there. The first hundred American soldiers arrived in Romania on February 8. In Poland, 1,700 soldiers will be stationed.”
Kiev and Western countries have recently expressed concerns about what they describe as an increase in Russia's “aggressive actions” near Ukraine's borders. Moscow has repeatedly denied such accusations, asserting that it does not threaten anyone and does not intend to attack anyone, stating that claims of “Russian aggression” are used as a pretext for deploying more NATO military equipment near Russia's borders, as reported by RIA Novosti.
