EU Has Tools for Sanctions Against Russia, But Prefers to Avoid Using Them: Borrell
The European Union has tools at its disposal to impose painful sanctions on Russia, but it would prefer not to apply them. This was stated by the head of European diplomacy, Josep Borrell.
“The European Union has certain tools in the economy, trade, and finance that can be used and will have serious consequences for the Russian economy... It would be better if this does not happen,” Borrell's words are quoted by RIA Novosti.
According to the head of European diplomacy, this refers to both personal sanctions and sectoral and financial restrictive measures. He emphasized that in this situation, deterrence is part of diplomatic negotiations.
“It is our duty to talk about what the consequences of aggression against Ukraine will be... We will do everything possible in the diplomatic sphere to prevent this,” Borrell concluded.
