Publication Date for the Decision on David Tonoyan and Others' Detention Measures Announced
The court will announce its decision regarding the detention measures for former Armenian Minister of Defense David Tonoyan and several other former high-ranking officials on January 24. The Yerevan Court of General Jurisdiction, presided over by Judge Manvel Shahverdyan, has retired to the deliberation room.
It is noteworthy that on September 30, the National Security Service (NSS) reported that David Tonoyan and arms supplier David Galstyan were arrested on suspicion of committing theft in especially large amounts.
Earlier, on September 25, the NSS reported that former head of the military aviation, Avetik Muradyan, was arrested on suspicion of abuse of power leading to severe consequences and official forgery. According to the report, he was aware in his official capacity that one of the organizations supplying weapons and ammunition had imported missiles produced between 1985-1991 into Armenia back in 2011. Some of the missiles were not fired and were removed from the balance shortly after the supply, while others were never utilized, including during the 44-day war that began on September 27, 2020.
Since September 30, both Tonoyan and Galstyan have been detained. Charges have also been brought against Chief of the General Staff Artak Davtyan, head of the aviation technical property service of the Ministry of Defense's aviation department Artyom Hambaryan, and chief engineer of the aviation department Vladimir Babayan.
