Residents of P'arak'ar Held Protests in Front of Government Building
60 percent of the residents of the P'arak'ar community have joined a protest demanding the holding of snap elections. This was announced by community members during a protest in front of the government building. They are calling on the government to respond to the demands presented by the 'Living Country' faction on January 3 regarding the organization of snap elections.
Participants in the protest cited the local self-government law, which states that if a community leader is not elected within two weeks, the government must appoint snap elections. They also recalled the various violations that accompanied the election of the community leader.
Volodya Grigoryan, the candidate for community leader from the 'Living Country' faction, also participated in the protest. In an interview with journalists, he explained why he announced the resignation of council mandates.
“The announcement about resigning the mandates was made to prevent clashes. The citizens who elected us and those who did not were gathered in one place, which could have led to an unpleasant situation, and I made that statement to create a background of solidarity at that moment,” he said.
Volodya Grigoryan elaborated that since they have appealed to the court, they cannot resign their council mandates. He also added that the community residents expect justice to be restored.
