Two Officials Arrested on Suspicion of Bribery
Under Article 311 of the Armenian Criminal Code (Receiving Illegal Remuneration by a Public Official, Not Acting as a Public Official), on January 18, 2022, two individuals were arrested by the Investigative Committee of the Republic of Armenia for suspicion of receiving a large sum of bribery. The arrested individuals are P. E., the Deputy Head of the Territorial Division of the Ministry of Urban Development, Technical and Fire Safety Inspection, and A. G., the Chief Specialist of the same division.
According to the obtained factual data in the criminal case under investigation by the Anti-Corruption Committee, P. E. and A. G., in preliminary agreement, received a significant bribe of $1,000 from the owner of a company engaged in fuel sales. This was for their clear unlawful inaction regarding the fact that the company was carrying out renovations, modernizations, and other construction works at a petrol station located in the Kotayk region without proper permits, failing to document the violations and taking appropriate measures to eliminate them on October 21, 2021.
An investigation is underway.
