Rustam Badasyan on the Goris-Kapan Highway
Only a few large Iranian trucks have passed on the Goris-Kapan highway since the establishment of Armenian checkpoints on that road. This was stated by the president of the RA State Revenue Committee, Rustam Badasyan, during a briefing with journalists in the National Assembly today.
"Most of the traffic is now moving along the new road. Armenian vehicles do not pass through that road at all," said the head of the SRC.
Badasyan also reported that the newly installed customs checkpoints are conducting certain records by comparing data registered at the Meghri checkpoint. He noted that no separate customs duties are being collected at these checkpoints.
Badasyan expressed confidence that after the construction of an alternative bypass road, even the largest trucks will no longer use the section of the Goris-Kapan highway controlled by Azerbaijan.
The SRC president assured that Armenia has not suffered economically from the situation created on the interstate highway until now. "We have lost 0 vehicles because all vehicles enter the RA through the Meghri checkpoint in Agarak. That is, we do not have any shortfall in payments," said Badasyan.
It is noteworthy that from November 11 and November 15, Azerbaijani customs checkpoints were installed on the Goris-Kapan and Kapan-Jacaten roads. On December 12, 2021, the chairman of the Azerbaijani SRC, Safar Mehdiyev, announced that about $1.2 million from vehicles passing through the Goris-Kapan road had been deposited into the Azerbaijani state budget.
