VIDEO: Unfortunately, I have not been to Artsakh, but I want to win on ice in honor of my country – Adelya Petrosyan on the Artsakh war
As previously reported, during the free program competitions at the Russian Figure Skating Championship 2022 in St. Petersburg, Armenian figure skater Adelya Petrosyan executed two quadruple toe loops, a first not only in women's but also in men's singles skating history. She achieved a score of 160.68 points with her program.
In the wake of her latest victory, Adelya Petrosyan's words about Artsakh have resurfaced.
“The music for my short program was composed by Armenian composer Ara Gevorgyan, and I am Armenian through my father. Recently, Armenia lost a war and conceded Artsakh. It is very important for me to encourage my people, whose blood runs through my veins, with my performance—it is crucial that Artsakh is returned to Armenia.
Unfortunately, I have not been to Artsakh, but I want to win on the ice in honor of my country. Besides, when I was preparing this program, my grandmother, who had Armenian roots, passed away. She was also important to me. I want everyone to see how beautifully this program was choreographed by Daniil Markovich Gleichenhaus and how well I perform it,” Adelya Petrosyan's remarks were quoted by 'Sport-Express.'
It should be noted that Adelya Petrosyan made this statement after the Russian Youth Figure Skating Championship, during which she won a silver medal. She earned a total of 211.87 points over two competitive days. Adelya performed her short program under Ara Gevorgyan’s composition ‘Artsakh.’
