EU Discusses Armenian-Azerbaijani Conflict with Russia

The European Union is engaged in discussions with Russia regarding the resolution of the conflict between Yerevan and Baku, making every possible effort for peace. This was stated by Luc Devigne, Director of the EU's External Action Service for Russian Federation, Eastern Partnership, Central Asia, and OSCE, at the European Parliament's Foreign Affairs Committee.

“We are in communication with Russia... I hope, and the Russian side can acknowledge, that we are doing this in the interest of peace and not for some other reasons,” he said.

In response to criticisms from parliamentarians about the EU's perceived passivity regarding the resolution of the conflict between Armenia and Azerbaijan, Devigne noted that the EU is doing what it can and is considering the possibility of doing more.

The EU's External Action Service Director also mentioned that Brussels is discussing the issue with Ankara. “We are in touch with Turkey; recently I was present at a meeting of high-ranking representatives in Turkey,” he reported.

Devigne emphasized that the key factor in resolving this conflict is the presence or absence of the willingness of the parties involved.
