Elmar Mamedyarov Temporarily Banned from Leaving Azerbaijan
According to publications in Azerbaijani media, former Foreign Minister Elmar Mamedyarov has been temporarily banned from leaving Azerbaijan. It is worth recalling that he was dismissed from his position as Foreign Minister amid considerable uproar, following stern criticism from Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, which was followed by inspections at the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry and the arrests of several high-ranking officials in the department.
As reported by the Azerbaijani news outlet Modern.az, Elmar Mamedyarov is currently in Baku and continues his work in the executive committee of the Azerbaijan Football Federations Association, representing the Public Union of Football Fans. The publication noted that his powers in this position have been in place for four years, and legally, unless there is some reason for him to leave this position, he cannot be deprived of it.
