International Airport Built in Varanda; Erdogan to Attend Opening
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan will attend the opening of the Varanda (Fizuli) airport, which is under Azerbaijani occupation, on October 26. The foundation for the Varanda airport was laid by Aliyev on January 14.
The first test flight to the airport was conducted on August 22. The runway is 3,000 meters long and 60 meters wide. The terminal is capable of handling 200 passengers per hour.
Azerbaijani media report that the airport will also serve international flights and will become a "window to the world." Specifically, a group of tourists wishing to visit the Armenian fortress city of Shushi can utilize the airport.
Azerbaijanis expect the opening of the airport to promote the development of tourism and trade in the region. The airport is located approximately 100 km from Shushi. According to reports, it may also accommodate military aircraft.
