Hayk Sargsyan on Azerbaijani Flights Over Armenian Airspace
MP Hayk Sargsyan from the ruling Civil Contract party wrote on his Facebook page: “The claims that Iran has closed its airspace to Azerbaijan, while Armenia has opened it, are incorrect. Iran has only closed the possibility for military flights, while airspace remains open for civilian flights from Azerbaijan.
Armenia’s airspace has never been closed to Azerbaijani civilian air transport. It was Azerbaijan itself that, on its own initiative in 2013, decided to halt air transport through Armenian airspace in order to inflict economic damage upon us (the use of airspace entails specific fees). As of yesterday, they have decided to resume air transport through our airspace.
Conversely, Azerbaijan's airspace has not been closed to Armenian airlines; Armenia has simply refused to make transport operations through Azerbaijani territory. Just as easily, we could, for example, start using their airspace from today.”
