I Am Inclined to Have It Operate: Suren Papikyan on Amulsar
It is quite difficult to say when Amulsar will reopen, but I am inclined to believe that it should operate. This was stated by the Deputy Prime Minister of Armenia, Suren Papikyan, during an interview on ‘Azatutyun’.
He emphasized that this must comply with all environmental standards. “When I mention that I am inclined towards having any mine operate in Armenia, creating jobs, and having additional funds in the budget to cover the ‘gaps’, I naturally say this in the case of compliance with environmental standards,” he said.
In response to concerns that neighboring communities may be harmed and that people's health may be endangered, Papikyan replied, “I believe we cannot do things that may bring such risks,” noting that there will always be people who may counter with differing opinions.
