“If We Don’t Want Afghanistan to Become a Global Terrorism Hub, It Must Be This Way”: UK Foreign Secretary's Statement
The head of the UK Foreign Office, Liz Truss, plans to urge Russia and China to adopt a coordinated approach regarding Afghanistan and its relations with the Taliban during the traditional meeting of foreign ministers from the five permanent members of the UN Security Council. This was reported by the UK Foreign Office, as noted by Armenpress.
“Truss is calling on Russia and China to agree on a coordinated international approach regarding Afghanistan... If we don’t want Afghanistan to become a global terrorism hub, then the international community, including Russia and China, needs to act collectively on engagement with the Taliban,” the statement released by the foreign agency reads.
It is expected that the parties will also discuss the role of the Security Council in maintaining global peace and security against the backdrop of ongoing conflicts and crises, including in Afghanistan, Myanmar, Yemen, and Ethiopia.
