Iran's Ambassador to Armenia Discusses Goris Road
The Ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Iran in Armenia, Abbas Badakhshan Zohouri, expressed hope that the alternative road to Goris will be constructed as quickly as possible.
“After the 44-day war in Nagorno-Karabakh, a trilateral peace agreement was reached between Armenia, Azerbaijan, and Russia. Following that, negotiations began regarding border delimitation. According to Soviet Union maps, two sections of the Goris-Kapan road belong to Azerbaijan, but an agreement has been reached to allow vehicles to travel this route without restrictions until the delimitation process starts.
As you know, in certain parts of the Goris-Kapan road, Azerbaijani police and border guards have been stopping drivers transporting Iranian goods to Armenia for several days, collecting certain amounts as customs duties from Iranian drivers. Perhaps Azerbaijan charges a road tax for every entry and exit of foreign vehicles.
The Iranian side, including the embassy, is making efforts to resolve this issue as soon as possible, and in the meantime, we expect the Armenian government to expedite the construction of the alternative road in Syunik. This refers to the Tatev road, where Iranian drivers will carry out shipments under safe and secure conditions,” said the ambassador.
