Georgia Opens Land Borders
Georgia has announced the reopening of its land borders. According to Aliq.ge, this decision was made by the interagency council led by the Georgian government, aimed at preventing the spread of coronavirus. Government representatives discussed the decision during a press conference following the meeting.
The land borders of Georgia will reopen on June 1. The goal of this decision is to stimulate tourism in the country. Crossing the border will be possible by presenting documentation of full vaccination (two doses) and a negative PCR test result, or solely with a negative PCR test result taken within the last 72 hours. In this case, individuals will be required to undergo a second test within the next 72 hours.
Since the beginning of March 2020, after several cases of coronavirus were confirmed in Georgia, the government imposed certain restrictions to prevent the spread of the virus. Starting from March 14 of last year, Georgia closed its land borders with Armenia, Turkey, and Azerbaijan, and from March 16, with Russia. Furthermore, starting from March 18, foreign citizens were completely banned from crossing the Georgian border, while Georgian citizens were also prohibited from leaving the country.
