State Machinery Slowly Responds to Outrageous Events in Syunik
State machinery has begun to respond, albeit slowly and with difficulty, to the outrageous events unfolding in Syunik. The Prime Minister, government, and General Staff have moved from inaction. The Ministers of Foreign Affairs and Defense have started making phone calls, Security Council meetings have been convened, and Nikol Pashinyan announced a decision to appeal to the CSTO. The Deputy Chief of the Armed Forces General Staff has traveled to Syunik to negotiate with the Azerbaijanis. These actions should have been taken the previous day, but better late than never. Most importantly, there were admissions that the enemy's incursion is not only in Syunik but also in Gegharkunik.
Meanwhile, there were circles close to the government vehemently denying the reports of the incursion near Shorja, as covered by the media. In general, it should be noted that during these days, the media and social networks have somewhat taken on the functions of state agencies. Journalists, through their persistence, despite facing spit from various ill-minded individuals, have been diligently performing their duties, forcing state bodies to take action rather than remain idle.
At such critical moments, the viability of the state, various authorities, and society becomes apparent—not when panic ensues, but when proactive measures are taken, accurately assessing the situation to prevent undesirable developments. In this regard, it should be noted that besides the media, the residents of Syunik and especially the mayors of Syunik communities have also stood firm. Human Rights Defender Tatyana and some military commanders responded quickly.
