Details of the Phone Call Between Pashinyan and Putin: How Should the Border Situation Be Resolved

The call between the Acting Prime Minister of the Republic of Armenia, Nikol Pashinyan, and the President of the Russian Federation, Vladimir Putin, took place at the initiative of the Armenian side on the evening of May 13.

According to information provided to Armenpress by the Information and Public Relations Department of the Prime Minister's Office, Nikol Pashinyan informed President Putin about the situation created as a result of the incursion of Azerbaijani armed forces into the sovereign territory of Armenia in the Syunik region.

The Acting Prime Minister also informed President Putin that he had instructed to officially address the Collective Security Treaty Organization to start consultations in accordance with Article 2 of the Collective Security Treaty.

Vladimir Putin deemed further escalation unacceptable and expressed hope for the rapid stabilization of the situation and the creation of conditions necessary for the implementation of the agreements reached by the trilateral statements of November 9, 2020, and January 11, 2021.

The Russian side reaffirmed its readiness to continue active mediation efforts aimed at ensuring stability in the region.

Both interlocutors agreed that the resolution of this situation should be reflected in the withdrawal of Azerbaijani troops to their initial positions.
