VIDEO: Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan Agree to Ceasefire
Bishkek and Dushanbe have agreed to a ceasefire. The heads of law enforcement agencies from both countries are expected to meet soon in the Tajik city of Isfara for negotiations.
Earlier, the Kyrgyz Border Service reported that armed conflict along the border with Tajikistan was ongoing. According to Armenpress, TASS has reported this information.
At the same time, both sides indicated that weapons were being used. For its part, Tajikistan's Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that they are fully adhering to the ceasefire regime. Kyrgyz Foreign Minister Ruslan Kazakbaev announced the start of negotiations with Tajikistan's Foreign Minister Sirojiddin Muhriddin and expressed hope that the conflict at the border between the two countries would soon be localized.
According to the latest data from Kyrgyzstan's Kabar news agency, 31 people sought medical assistance from health facilities, according to First Deputy Minister of Health and Social Development Aliza Soltonbekova. Of these, 1 person has died, 1 received outpatient treatment, and the remaining 29 have been hospitalized with various injuries in regional hospitals.
It is noteworthy that armed clashes between the two countries began on April 28, when a conflict erupted between local residents over a disputed border water distribution point. On April 29, clashes also occurred between the armed forces of both countries in the same area.
