Sanitek Against the Government and City Hall
The Sanitek company has filed a lawsuit with the international arbitration court against the Government of Armenia and the Yerevan City Hall.
According to the company's statement, the lawsuit has been submitted to the International Centre for Settlement of Investment Disputes, which is part of the World Bank Group. The dispute arose due to gross violations of agreements concerning investments signed between Armenia and Lebanon, as well as Canada.
The statement indicates that due to legal and investment issues, Sanitek's damages exceed $25 million. It is noteworthy that in October 2019, the Yerevan City Hall terminated its contracts with Sanitek. The reason, according to the city authorities, was the failure to collect waste on time, the significantly inadequate number of bins and garbage trucks, and their poor technical condition.
The city authorities created a state-run company to handle waste management instead of Sanitek.
