Mekhri Mayor Says No One Warned Him About Road Safety Concerns
The Mayor of Meghri, Mkhtiar Zakarian, denied reports in a phone conversation with Aravot.am that he had been advised to reach Meghri via the alternative Tatev-Agvani route due to safety concerns along the section of the Goris-Kapan interstate road under Azerbaijani control.
“There is no such thing, and there cannot be. I have traveled that section of the interstate road. Just about 8 days ago, I passed through there. I have the right to move freely on my land. No one has warned me about anything; there is no need to worry. As everyone else does, I travel that section too,” the mayor stated, urging media outlets to never “cut his words out of context to avoid giving rise to speculation and panic.”
