Nikol Pashinyan Files Lawsuit Against Zarouhi Postanjyan
The Prime Minister of Armenia, Nikol Pashinyan, has filed a lawsuit against Zarouhi Postanjyan, the leader of the ‘Yerkir Tsirani’ party. This information was reported by the Judicial Information System, according to Hraparak newspaper.
The Prime Minister seeks to publicly refute what he considers defamatory factual information and to compel Postanjyan to pay damages for defamation.
The lawsuit was filed on March 12 and assigned to Judge Naira Avetisyan of the Yerevan City Court.
David Hunanyan, the representative of the Prime Minister, stated in an interview with Hraparak that the basis for the lawsuit is a statement made by Zarouhi Postanjyan during an interview on February 8, 2021, at the ‘Hayeli’ Club. Specifically, the plaintiff claims that Postanjyan’s statement constitutes defamation: “Her dream was to hand over these territories. Indeed, she wrote back in 2008 that she and her husband were dreaming of ceding these lands. In other words, these individuals wrote about this, they gathered under this, and were paid funds regarding making that transaction. Therefore, where should I have gone with these people? But the most important issue is that regarding these people, the information about their agency has also been accessible to the previous government. Hence, why did this previous administration bring this person in and insert her into the parliament?”
Hunanyan noted that according to the lawsuit, the defamation consists of claims that Nikol Pashinyan and his wife received money regarding the ceding of lands, that they are agents, and that the previous government brought the plaintiff into the parliament.
