Azerbaijan's Security Council Approves Proposals for Establishing Buffer Zones in Armenia's Territory: Hohikyan
Political analyst Nairi Hohikyan wrote on his Facebook page: “At the end of December 2020, during a meeting of Azerbaijan's Security Council, approval was once again given to the proposals of Farhat Mammadov, director of the strategic research center affiliated with the president of Azerbaijan, and Ahmad Shahidov, head of the Institute of Human Rights and Democracy of Azerbaijan, regarding the establishment of buffer zones in the territory of the Republic of Armenia, should there be military aggression against Iran.
The authorities of Iran’s military preparations and warnings indicate that a war against Iran by an international coalition is not far off. During the Security Council meeting, Farhat Mammadov stated that they should try to intensify information terrorism against the Armenian public, employing various means to scare the population of Syunik or weaken public immunity with calls for friendship. They could then use the appropriate opportunity presented by the war against Iran to deploy troops in the southern regions of Armenia as a security guarantee for a land connection with Nakhchivan.
Turkey has successful examples of this, such as in Cyprus and, in recent years, in Syria, Iraq, and Libya under various scenarios. This, of course, leads to negative reactions from the international community, with great powers demanding the liberation of sovereign territory, but Turkish politics largely operates on the principle of blackmail, aiming to extend its military presence on another country's territory for as long as possible.”
