Georgia Wants to Join NATO, Russia Cannot Prevent It, Says NATO Secretary General
NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg believes that Russia should not influence any country's desire to join the North Atlantic Alliance, as this concerns sovereign states.
“Georgia wants to join NATO, and Russia cannot obstruct that. Whether Georgia will join NATO is solely a matter for Georgia and the alliance,” Stoltenberg stated.
According to him, NATO supports both Georgia and Ukraine and conducts joint military exercises with them.
At the same time, Stoltenberg refuted claims that the North Atlantic Alliance has acted aggressively when it agreed to include countries from the Warsaw Pact. According to the NATO Secretary General, this is not about NATO's eastward expansion, as those countries decided to join NATO through their own democratic processes.
