If mutual demands of the parties are not resolved, it will be difficult to exclude new escalations around Karabakh: Arkadi Dubnov
According to Russian political scientist Arkadi Dubnov, one of the main substantive points of today’s trilateral meeting will be the plan for the construction of transport corridors in the South Caucasus, which are intended to connect Turkey and Azerbaijan (Nakhchivan) through Armenian territory, actively promoted by Baku along with Ankara. The Turkish alliance seeks to interest Moscow in granting control over the Armenian section of this corridor, which would eventually enable the diversification of hydrocarbon flows to Europe, bypassing Georgia.
It is expected that a statement will be signed after the summit in Kremlin, if, of course, it is possible to reach an agreement around this issue. If the mutual demands of the parties cannot be resolved in one way or another, it will be difficult to exclude new escalations around Karabakh.
Moscow hopes that the negotiations will be effective enough to prevent the new US administration from intervening in the Karabakh process. For this reason, they are in a hurry to resolve all major issues before January 20, when the inauguration ceremony of the 46th President of the United States, Joe Biden, will take place.
