Water Cannon and Tear Gas Used in Tbilisi
In Tbilisi, on Rustaveli Avenue, participants of the protest that started have moved towards the Central Election Commission, reports aliq.ge.
Special forces have been mobilized near the main office of the CEC. The police have used a water cannon and, presumably, tear gas against the demonstrators.
It is reported that a large-scale protest has begun near the Georgian parliament, organized by opposition parties and civil representatives. The protesters have given the Georgian authorities until 20:00 to dismiss CEC Chair Tamar Jvania and form a new electoral commission.
The opposition's demands include:
- Conducting new, fair, and free parliamentary elections,
- Resignation of the CEC chair, and the formation of a new electoral commission,
- Release of all political prisoners.
