Gagik Tsarukyan Arrested for 2 Months; Legal Appeal Planned
The court has published the summary of its decision, effectively granting the pre-trial body’s petition. Gagik Tsarukyan has been detained for two months, as confirmed by his lawyer Samvel Dilbandyan in a press briefing.
According to the lawyer, the court's decision was anticipated: "For this reason, Tsarukyan did not even attend. He is awaiting at the National Security Service; he went directly there. The rushed implementation of the entire process and the court's announcement of its decision right after a nine-hour session is indicative of a corresponding mindset."
He also stated that although they have received the decision, they have not yet reviewed its content. "However, the decision will undoubtedly be appealed to the Court of Appeal. The decision was clearly illegal. Charging him with a crime of medium gravity and selecting detention as a preventive measure is not consistent with European values. Detention should only be applied in exceptional cases."
The lawyer noted that the court's decision was influenced by Tsarukyan's recent political activities, as he had been holding meetings with the public.
