The Significance of Independence Day is an Invitation for Our Nation's Children to Reevaluate the Difficult Path We’ve Walked - Karekin II
His Holiness Karekin II, the Supreme Patriarch and Catholicos of All Armenians, has sent a congratulatory message on the occasion of Armenia's Independence Day, which we present below.
“From the Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin, we bring our paternal love and blessings to our pious people both at home and in the diaspora, and we congratulate them on the joyful occasion of Independence Day. Around three decades ago, our people, with the Lord's blessing, fulfilled their longstanding desire to reestablish an independent state and committed themselves wholeheartedly to creating a new life of freedom.
These years will forever be remembered with pride for the collective sacrifices and commitments of the entire Armenian nation, which have resulted in the realization of numerous homeland-based projects and initiatives, demonstrating that it is through our unity that we achieve successes and victories in our lives.
The bright message of Independence Day invites our nation’s children to reevaluate the difficult path we’ve walked, to remain steadfast in our desire and dedication to live freely and create, to enhance our statehood. Today, dear ones, despite all difficulties, we are strengthened by the achievements and victories of the years of independence and the love our people have shown for the homeland, which has manifested as heroism at our borders, devotion in our educational institutions, and fruitful efforts in the fields of art and science.
Indeed, the commitment and diligence of our entire society strengthen our statehood, advancing with each individual's effort and contribution. Let us hold firmly to our united and devoted path, well aware that “unity is the mother of good deeds” (Yeghishe).
Let us raise a prayer to the Benevolent God, to keep our homeland peaceful and secure, and to strengthen our people's love and responsibility towards our statehood, so that our homeland may flourish and shine, and our children may continue to uphold the glorious significance of Independence Day from generation to generation.
May the love, mercy, and grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with us and all today and always. Amen.”
