Shooting Occurs at Azerbaijan-Iran Border, Casualties Reported

A shooting incident has occurred at the Azerbaijan-Iran border, resulting in casualties. According to the State Border Service, the border guards noticed two individuals attempting to cross the border illegally. When these individuals failed to comply with a stop order, border guards fired upon them, resulting in the death of one smuggler, while the other managed to escape.

During the search of the area, approximately 15 kg of drugs and a rifle were discovered in two bags. As a result of the undertaken measures, a resident of the Beylagan region, Adish Javadoghlu Mamedov (born in 1975), was arrested, and 10 bottles of alcohol were found in his possession. Mamedov was reportedly scheduled to meet with the smugglers to acquire the drugs from them.

The Iranian border authorities have been informed about the incident.
