Details Revealed About Incident on Alek Manukyan Street
The Investigative Committee of the Republic of Armenia has disclosed several circumstances surrounding the incident of hooliganism and intentional infliction of harm on Alek Manukyan Street in Yerevan, which involved the use of firearms. This information has been reported by the Investigative Committee.
Earlier, it was reported that on August 31, 2020, at 22:32, a call was received from the 'Heratsi' hospital complex indicating that a 33-year-old man had sought medical assistance with a diagnosis of 'multiple fractures of the right thigh with the presence of foreign objects.' The investigation revealed that the 33-year-old man had argued with a 23-year-old youth over financial matters related to car sales.
On August 31, at around 22:00, motivated by profit, the youth had previously taken a firearm and homemade explosives, went to Alek Manukyan Street, and lay in ambush. Upon noticing the 33-year-old man near the building, he approached from behind and fired his gun at him, intentionally causing serious harm to his health.
A group of citizens present in the yard intervened to prevent the actions of the 23-year-old youth, taking the firearm from him. However, driven by a compulsion to assert his superiority, he grossly violated public order, showed blatant disrespect toward the residents of the nearby buildings and other individuals by throwing his homemade explosives at them before fleeing the scene.
Based on sufficient evidence obtained, the 23-year-old has been charged under Articles 112, Part 2, Point 7, and 258, Part 4 of the RA Criminal Code, and he has been remanded in custody. Forensic medical, explosive technical, genetic, and criminalistic examinations have been appointed in connection with the criminal case.
It is also noted that two residents of Yerevan, born in 1999 and 1966, who were arrested on suspicion of hooliganism, have been released from detention due to a lack of necessity. The preliminary investigation is ongoing.
