Government Allocates Funds for Purchasing Vehicles and Weapons for Patrol Service
The patrol service, consisting of 700 personnel, will be operational by the end of the first quarter of next year. Police Chief Vahe Ghazaryan stated during the government meeting that the five-month training includes not only police officers but also civilians. A total of 770 individuals are participating in the competition, of which 700 will undergo training.
The government will allocate funds for the purchase of vehicles and weapons designated for the patrol service, with 150 new vehicles being procured for the new patrol service. According to the proposal submitted for government approval, the procurement tender has already been conducted, and the winner is "Czech Auto" LLC. The company has offered a bid of 1,932,750,000 AMD for 150 vehicles, translating to 12,885,000 AMD per unit.
According to the timeline presented by the police, the first 10 vehicles will be delivered by November 1 of this year, and the remaining 140 by December 20. It is noteworthy that these vehicles are designated for the patrol service exclusively operating within Yerevan.
Furthermore, a two-year timeline is set for creating the new patrol service throughout the entire Republic, by 2022. The Patrol Service in Yerevan is expected to commence operations in the first quarter of 2021, while the rest of Armenia will follow in the first quarter of 2022. The training process for selected citizens will begin at the Police Academy starting mid-October 2020.
Justice Minister Rustam Badasyan also emphasized, "Patrol officers will be armed with new types of weapons and vehicles equipped with the latest technological capabilities. An operational management center will also be established." Of the patrol vehicles, 10 will be operational by November 1 for training purposes, while the remaining 140 will be present in the city by December.
