Yerevan State University Acting Rector on Tuition Fee Increases
“I agree that for many it is high, but there are two sides to this. This was stated by the Acting Rector of Yerevan State University, Gegham Gevorgyan, during a meeting with journalists.
“One side provides a service, while the other receives it, and moreover, the services we offer are not monopolistic. There are other options available across all our specialties, and people can choose. If they opt for this service at this price, then it works for them,” said Gevorgyan.
He also pointed out that it is often mentioned that discounts should be provided to students. “There is also a problem here. According to the relevant law, if we grant a discount of more than 10 percent, it is considered income for the student, and we, as a tax agent, are obligated to pay their taxes. For example, if we provide discounts exceeding 100 million drams, we would approximately pay 30 million drams to the state budget in return,” said the Acting Rector of Yerevan State University.
