We Will Not Declare Special Quarantine Conditions in Batumi, Says Gakharia
“Despite the fact that the pandemic situation in Batumi seems to be more severe compared to other regions of Georgia, we do not plan to adopt special quarantine conditions in Batumi, and there is no talk of closing the city,” said Georgian Prime Minister Giorgi Gakharia during a meeting of the interagency coordinating council, as reported by 1Tv.ge.
According to him, there is a considerable number of citizens currently vacationing in Batumi, and research activities are being conducted there.
“As you know, 22 of the reported cases in Batumi are related to a food establishment. There are quite a few people in Batumi who are relaxing, and research activities are ongoing here,” Gakharia stated.

According to Marina Ezugbaia, the medical director of the Tbilisi Infectious Diseases Hospital, 22 of the 38 new cases are linked to the ‘Dona’ confectionery store in Batumi, 7 cases are associated with already registered cases, four are imported, and the source of infection for five cases remains unknown.
