38-Year-Old Man Arrested on Suspicion of Violent Assault Against Three Police Officers

On August 31, 2020, the commander of the Special Patrol Service unit of the Vagharshapat division of the Armenian Police reported that on the same day, at around 16:15, a citizen in a park opposite the Ejmiadzin City Hall spoke to police officers in an offensive and contemptuous tone regarding the issue of not wearing a mask, displayed aggressive behavior, and refused to present identification documents. Following this, he physically assaulted one officer, causing them physical pain.

During this incident, the individual also committed violence against another police officer by pulling him, resulting in bodily injury for that officer as well. The Vagharshapat division of the Armenian Police has initiated a criminal case under Part 1 of Article 316 of the Criminal Code of Armenia (use of violence against a representative of authority), which has been forwarded to the Vagharshapat investigative division of the Armavir Regional Investigative Department for further investigation. Three police officers have been recognized as victims of the attack.

As a result of the actions taken, the 38-year-old citizen has been arrested on suspicion of committing violence against police officers. The investigation is ongoing.
