Yerevan Resident Steals Large Sum from HSBC ATMs Using Duplicates of American Bank Cards
The Investigative Committee of Armenia, alongside the Crime Investigation Department of the Police, has uncovered several circumstances related to a significant theft utilizing computer technology.
According to the investigation, a 30-year-old resident of Yerevan obtained 75 unauthorized duplicates of plastic cards from various American banks, including “BANK OF AMERICA,” “METABANK,” and “HSBC.” Between October 29, 2019, and August 12, 2020, he reportedly used these duplicates to withdraw approximately 7,488,000 AMD from HSBC Bank Armenia ATMs located on more than a dozen streets in Yerevan, causing moral and financial damage to the mentioned banks.
Based on sufficient evidence, the 30-year-old has been charged under Article 181, Part 3, Clause 1 of the Criminal Code of Armenia, which pertains to grand theft using computer technology. The suspect has confessed to the crime, and a travel restriction has been imposed on him, combined with bail conditions. The full amount of damage has been restored during the preliminary investigation. The investigation is ongoing.
