Romanos Petrosyan on Mining Industry
The Minister of Environment of the Republic of Armenia, Romanos Petrosyan, wrote on his Facebook page: "According to statistical data, in 2019 the share of the mining industry (mining and exploitation of quarries) in Armenia's GDP was 2.8%. Two representatives from this sector are among the top ten major taxpayers for the tax year.
The impact of the mining industry on having a competitive economy, promoting the investment sector, solving social issues, and the development of the region continues to be important and requires a very cautious approach.
Environmental management and innovative programs in the mining sector must stem from the government’s citizen-centered and responsible mining policy and should not create environmental and health situations that could have irreversible consequences for both our people and the environment of the region.
