Man Who Beheaded His Sister Arrested

The Investigative Committee of Armenia has clarified several details regarding the murder committed by a 58-year-old man against his sister with particular cruelty.

According to the Investigative Committee, on August 1, 2020, at around 18:06, police officers on Mosbes Khorenatsi Street noticed a citizen holding a polyethylene bag and approached him, discovering that the bag contained the severed head of a woman.

An investigation revealed that the suspect had been living at his sister's home for approximately six months, under her care. On the same day at around 16:30, with the intent to unlawfully take her life, he had taken a household blender from the kitchen, secretly entered his sister's bedroom, where she was occupied with her computer and did not notice him approaching. He used a wire from the blender to strangle her and threw her to the floor.

Seeing that she was still moving, in order to complete his intention, he took a 35 cm long makeshift sharpened iron rod from an adjacent room and, using it as a knife, began cutting off his sister's head with particular cruelty.

After decapitating his sister, he left her body at the same location and placed the severed head into the polyethylene bag, took the ownership certificate of his sister's house and other documents, and left the house.

Based on sufficient evidence, the 58-year-old man has been charged under the 5th point of the 2nd part of Article 104 of the Criminal Code of Armenia. He has been remanded in custody as a preventive measure. The preliminary investigation is ongoing.
