Various Members of 'My Step' Coalition Oppose Vahram Avetisyan's Candidacy for Constitutional Court Post
According to the Joghourds newspaper, the National Assembly's 'My Step' faction has decided to convene a faction meeting on Wednesday, August 5. Sources indicate that the meeting will be intense, as the faction plans to finalize how to vote on the candidacy of Constitutional Court judge Vahram Avetisyan.
The issue is that various members have already expressed their opposition to Avetisyan's candidacy to the faction leadership, and they intend to vote accordingly. Following this, it was decided to gather again to determine how to proceed, in order to reach a unified stance.
Our sources indicate that a certain group of faction members are not favorably disposed towards Vahram Avetisyan. The problem is that Avetisyan was nominated by the Armenian government, with lobbying from part of the ruling coalition, particularly by Constitutional Court member Vahe Grigoryan. They seem to be considering two options: either change the candidate or express their opposition.
It remains unclear what conclusions the 'My Step' members will draw from the discussions at the faction meeting. It is also noted that during meetings with Avetisyan, many members did not hide their negative attitudes towards him, while some stated that they would follow the Prime Minister's decision.
