Russian Ambassador to Belarus Summoned to Foreign Ministry Over Wagner Group Details
In Belarus, Russian Ambassador Dmitry Mezentsev has reported that he has been summoned to the Belarusian Foreign Ministry to discuss the recent arrest of 33 members of the Russian private military organization known as the Wagner Group.
The meeting at the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs has been scheduled for the first half of the day, the ambassador informed journalists.
It is noted that on July 29, Belarusian law enforcement officials apprehended 32 soldiers from a foreign private military company. It later became clear that those arrested were members of the Russian Wagner Group, who had checked into a hotel in Minsk on July 24 and were subsequently moved to a resort not far from the city.
The group drew the attention of the resort staff due to behaviors atypical for tourists and their uniform military-style clothing. The members refrained from using alcoholic beverages, avoided entertainment venues, and attempted to stay under the radar.
As a result, the group's members were detained by special forces.
The Wagner Group is a military private company that has reportedly operated in Ukraine and subsequently in Syria.
