Mother Arrested for Allegedly Killing Newborn in Workplace Bathroom

A 31-year-old woman has been arrested on suspicion of murdering her newborn child.

Details have emerged indicating that on July 29, 2020, between the hours of 3:00 PM and 4:00 PM, the woman gave birth to a female child alone in the bathroom of her workplace. Hearing the baby’s cries, she allegedly placed a towel in the newborn's mouth, then put the baby into a polyethylene bag intended for garbage and discarded it in a dumpster behind a neighboring building, where the infant's body was later discovered.

This information was reported by the Information Department of the Investigative Committee of Armenia, providing further details about this horrific incident that took place in Yerevan.

On the same day, at 10:45 PM, a report was received from the Kanaker-Zeytun Medical Center, stating that a 31-year-old woman from Yerevan was admitted with a diagnosis of uterine bleeding.

Based on the initial response to the emergency call, factual data was collected regarding the circumstances of the child’s birth and subsequent murder. The body of the newborn was found in a dumpster.

A criminal case was initiated in the investigative division of the Kanaker-Zeytun administrative district under Article 106 of the Criminal Code of Armenia (murder of a newborn by the mother).

The woman has been arrested on suspicion of murdering her newborn. During the investigation, several investigative actions have been carried out, including an on-site inspection, and various individuals have been questioned. A forensic examination of the body has been ordered. The investigation is ongoing.
