Internet Could Be Completely Shut Down on Presidential Election Day in Belarus

The Belarusian authorities have not ruled out the possibility of shutting down the internet on the day of the presidential elections, August 9, following the arrest of 33 militants from the Russian private military company Wagner Group near Minsk.

Andrei Dmitriev, a presidential candidate in Belarus, stated this during a meeting at the Central Election Commission, as reported by znak.com. During this meeting, he asked the Secretary of the Security Council, Sergey Lavkov, whether it was possible for the internet to be shut down on August 9. Lavkov responded that if there are threats, a complete shutdown of the internet cannot be ruled out.

According to the Belarusian KGB, around 200 foreign mercenaries are preparing to carry out provocations ahead of the presidential elections.
