I Do Not Intend to Be the 'Scapegoat for the Judicial System's Sins': Constitutional Court Judge Candidate
The meeting between Constitutional Court judge candidate Vahram Avetisyan and My Step lawmakers has concluded. In a conversation with reporters, Avetisyan stated that the lawmakers raised questions that had been voiced on social media and in the press, as well as issues that had not been addressed by the media. 'I have answered as honestly as possible and presented my views and approaches. I believe this will allow the My Step lawmakers to form their own perspectives,' he stated.
Regarding the discussions around his father's former position as a judge and his connection to the March 1 case, Avetisyan emphasized that the question had been discussed from various angles. 'I do not intend to justify the problems of the judicial system that existed in newly independent Armenia. I also do not plan to become the “scapegoat for the judicial system's sins,” he remarked.
On the inquiries related to his father, he pointed out the need to clarify the Supreme Court's functions, asking whether it is a court that processes cases and if there are clear facts available or if we are only discussing assumptions. 'I understand the concerns of those raising such questions, but I do not share them, as there are many officials who served during that time and were involved in those cases. My father has been retired for five years now, and I cannot imagine how those processes would affect my future activities in the Constitutional Court,' he added.
